Pre Death-Discussion About a Funeral

Have you ever considered talking with a professional about your own or a loved one’s  funeral and how you would like it to look,  before the point where it becomes a reality?

Have you thought about how many different options there might be? 

Are there questions you would like to ask or rituals and ideas you would like to include but you’re not sure whether you can?

Have you wondered whether funerals have to take place in a crematorium or church? What if you like the idea of holding your funeral ceremony in your own garden or next to the paddock where your much-loved animals are grazing or in your favourite pub for instance?

Do you wonder whether certain words have to be included or whether you can sing a much-loved Christmas carol for example, in July, if that was one of the deceased’s favourite pieces of music?

Does your imagination run wild when you try to picture what happens behind the scenes at a crematorium? 

So many people shy away from talking about funerals especially their own and once the inevitable happens, families find themselves in a heightened emotional state, trying to organise a funeral without any idea about how best to go about it and how best to give their loved one a fitting and personal send off, one which truly reflects who they were, the life they led and what they meant to those closest to them.

I offer a service whereby I am happy to meet with you to talk through funeral ideas.  This could be your own ceremony or one which you know needs to be thought about because there is a death approaching due to illness or frailty of old age.  The result of this meeting may be a list of ideas, an outline for different sections of the funeral or indeed the actual script for a funeral service. This can then be kept by you or if you decide that you would like me to conduct the funeral, I can keep it safe until the time when it is needed. Amendments can be made at your request, as and when needed.

It is never too soon to get your ideas and thoughts down on paper; your loved ones will thank you for this when the time comes.  Many families find this task, if handled at an appropriate time, to be a cathartic one which brings them reassurance, peace and a sense of satisfaction. 

Talking about funerals doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom; in fact, quite the opposite…… it can be so uplifting, enlightening and as I’ve already said, satisfying!  We will all die, that is certain and our final farewell, with some thought and consideration, can be so personal, special and meaningful especially to those left behind.
